CARIBBEAN MURDER MYSTERY EVENING

by Gill Moorcroft

Well, who did do it????? The heinous crime of murder, for which there were a number of suspects. A fictitious Caribbean island of Leet at the plantation home of the Hawkes Family, was the setting for this Sixties Murder Mystery evening.

The invitation to attend the evening was extended to all the Group Leaders and their partners and all other helpers of the u3a by way of saying “Thankyou” for all their hard work.

The “suspects” of the murder of an American Millionaire were played by:-

Lord Hawkes – Andrew Johnson
Lady Hawkes – Pat Spencer
The Honourable Fenella Hawkes - Penny Clifford
Henrietta Danvers – Diane Putnam
Duke of Ford – Keith Cherry
Lady Elizabeth Ford – Jenny O’Neil
Johnny Smithington-Smythe – Geoff Pearson
Miss Agatha Maypole – Kathy Johnson
Sticky – Val Osborne
Suzy Cinco – Tricia Adams
James the Butler – Lee O’Neil

and investigated by:-
Inspector Les Strade – Jean Laikin
Sergeant Jenny Watts – Gill Moorcroft.

The scene was set by Lord Hawkes giving the guests “at the Hawkes Annual Supper for ex-pats” details of the suspects who were present at the dinner the previous evening when the millionaire was murdered - found floating face down in the swimming pool, with a machete in his back surrounded by halved citrus fruit!!

It was then up to the guests to try and determine the motive, cause of death and ultimately the “ one who dunnit!!”

The evening was a great success with everyone who attended making the effort to come in suitable Caribbean attire. The cast stayed in character all evening and answered any questions in an attempt to solve the crime.

Eventually, Miss Maypole announced to all who dunnit, why and by what method.

The winner was Joy Lally who, managed to get all three things correct and Alan Buchanan came second. Mary Anderton was thanked for her help with the evening

The evening continued with a buffet supper and drinks.

Ah, just one more thing.......who DID do it????......................well it was Sticky, of course!!

Our thanks go also to Andrew and Kathy Johnson for writing the Murder Mystery for our enjoyment.
