MAY BALL - MAY 16th 2008

On Friday 16th May 2008, 23 members and friends attended the May Ball, Dinner Dance organised by Javea U3A at El Canor Restaurant in Teulada. This restaurant is just made for this kinds of event, lovely surroundings, professional staff and plenty of space.

As we arrived we were served Cava, which was freely available on the outside terrace. It was lovely to just stroll around surrounded by a very glamorous crowd. It was a little cool, so it was good to get the call to go into the Restaurant. I am not sure how many tables there were, but we soon found our two Calpe tables and settled down.

Rosi Evans, the President of Javea U3A, who with her team had organised the event, introduced the various U3A Groups, which included Denia, Jalon, Oliva and Torrevieja and some other groups such as the Classical Car Group of Javea and Blue Skies, a total of 380 people. As each group was introduced, that table of course had to make sure the rest of the room knew they were there.

The service was very efficient, the food was well served and when appropriate served on warm plates! The food itself was good, and as they were catering for 380 better than many expected. Wine was freely available until the dessert, and I have never seen so many hands raised in supplication to get more bottles. The staff was very efficient and friendly and added to the enjoyment of the evening. Coffee was served and Liquors and proper ones at that.

The dancing started, a Duo called Double Impact playing mainly 60’s tunes, so we all knew the words, and the moves. The floor was a bit crowded but that didn’t matter. The dancing went on until 1.30am.

During the evening there was a draw based on the ticket numbers, these were quite substantial prizes and three members on our tables had a win.

The general feeling was that we had a lovely evening. You could not fault the planning or organisation. It was a lovely opportunity to shake out the dresses and suits, and I think we all “scrubbed up well”.

Thanks to everyone from Calpe who attended. Perhaps it will be repeated next year?
