REPORT ON TRIP TO IBIZA. Monday May 10th – Saturday May 15th 2004.

Overlooking Cala d'Hort
The island of es Vedra, Ibiza

After the first two days the sun shone and a good time was had by all. Not that the rain bothered any one very much - the company was good – all 40 of us; the hotel was comfortable and the breakfasts and dinners gave you everything you wanted in the quantity you chose.

There was, as usual, good communication with the one above as on the second day, "The Tour of the Island" by coach, the rain stopped every time a walk about in the open was called for. It still rained alright but only when every one was under cover – so what?

Jackie and Brian Johnson were around to lead the energetic on unknown trails, which they seemed to have enjoyed while others explored the heights of Ibiza Town , went walk about in San Antonio, viewed the mountain heights and wonderful wild flowers from the “noddy” train, lazed around the pool, or taxed their brains with bridge.

Ibiza in the spring is a delight. San Antonio wasn’t too busy but it is very English. So is the Hippy Market.

Yes – Ibiza conjures CLUBS. Not for us though!!! Most were in Ibiza Town and the Hotel was on the beach a couple of kms or so from San Antonio. Too bad! What sort of spoil sport planned this trip to make CLUBS out of bounds?

This trip was a good example of the need to travel light. It’s O.K. saying “Yes, the coach will take you to the ferry and there will be a coach at the other end to take you to the Hotel, but it was not said that the problem would be the ferry. How do you struggle up a tilting, steep, rugged gangway hauling a heavy case with you? Or come down the other side? Especially when it started a foot above ground level? It was a struggle for all but the strongest and fittest.

In the end every one managed but it must be said quite a few wished they had only a rucsack on their backs, leaving hands free to clutch the rails.!
