TRAVEL REPORT
CHRISTMAS AT GUARDAMAR
by Jean Laikin
Although this was not a Calpe U3A event, many members did attend and had a lovely Christmas.
Judging by all the reports Christmas at Guardamar this year was spectacularily good. Strangely enough most of the reports have come from people who did not go - but wished they had.
Enthusiasm is the secret for all these things - and that was very evident this year from the two professional music makers , Manuel the guide who showed us Santa Pola, the tour of Guardamar by noddy train, the singing of the carols around the swimming pool while drinking hot toddy and eating home made mince pies, all that apart from the abundance of wine and food and the good company. Even the traditional walk to the park proved more successful than last year. The ducks had returned and enjoyed their treat of stale bread rolls. The "hidden talent" concert on Christmas Night - now another tradition - was incredibly good.
But all this seemed likely to be the last Christmas at Guardamar as I had decided not to do it any more (it's too much work for a solo effort) but fortunately a small committee is being formed to organise it for next Christmas. So all is well. The hotel is already booked and names will be taken in due course.
Jean Laikin.
