REPORT ON THE FALLAS IN GANDIA - March 19th 2005

45 of us set off for Gandia on Saturday afternoon – unfortunately without our intrepid leader, Jean, who was recovering from illness (which meant we had ‘the blind leading the blind’!)

Undaunted, however, we set off armed with instructions from Jean and duly arrived in Gandia – where, after a couple of tours of the town the coach driver managed to find a suitable place for us to alight. We all made our own way around town looking at the various fallas which, as usual, were magnificent, with some absolutely beautiful children’s ones. We saw several mini processions and then the main procession which, again as usual, overwhelmed us with the most beautiful costumes and hairstyles.

At 8 p.m. we all managed to meet back at the coach to be taken to our buffet supper in a restaurant on the front and judging by the decibel level and the comments on the food, it was greatly enjoyed by all. Later, back to the fallas, expecting to see the burnings start at midnight. Unfortunately, we found out too late that they were not going to start until 1 p.m. when we were expected back at the coach for the homeward trip. After a quick vote, with some wanting to leave, we decided to call it a night and, luckily, 45 of us arrived back safely in Calpe.
