They thought we were going to Castellón but never a sight of the city did we see. But we did see so much else which is so near at hand and yet so little explored - Sagunta and its (badly) renovated Roman Teatro; never to be forgotten medieval village of Vilafamés with a modern art museum in an old manor house; Peniscola and Papa Luna's castle with its extreme beaches (and little else) apart from the very pleasant hotel at which we spend three wonderful nights; the rocky heights of Ares del Maestrat and the capital of the Maestrago - Morella itself. A jolly good lunch too.
Homeward bound, but using the dull old motorway for too long, before the turning for Benicássim led us to the mountainous and well wooded area of the Desierta de los Palmas and the chance to buy the special liquor brewed by the Carmelites to revive our spirits and provide instant warmth and well being. Still no visit to Castellón city but the very extensive Grau de Castellón provided interest and a good lunch before embarking on the boats which ferried every one through the underground waters of the Grotto of San José.
"They" say this was the best trip of all but if you listen carefully you will find that "they" say that the last trip is always the best trip of all!!
