TRAVEL REPORT

Report on the day trip Biar, Novelda and Agost 6th March 2008
It was truly a wonderful day on Thursday, March 6th when a full coach load visited the three villages – Biar, Novelda and Agost – all close together and not very far from Alicante.
Biar has a hidden sanctuary at the top of a rough hill and our wonderful guide, Manuel- told of the exciting ceremony held there with the local fiesta in May. Every one was interested until it dawned on them that they would have to be ready to start the fun at mid night. It also has a most interesting museum showing how the locals lived in the days of not so very long ago.
San interesting village well worth another visit.
Then onto Novelda to one of the most beautiful houses in Europe – now the casa Museo Modernista – the jewel of the trip – and the sanctuary with its Gaudi influence.
A complete contrast was the visit to the work shop of Mr Emili Boix in the pottery village of Agost an incredibly skilled potter whose hands seemed to fashion the wet clay into figures and pots almost by magic. A real master.
The weather was kind to us too. It was bitterly cold but the sun shone brilliantly.
Thank you Manuel for a lovely day.
Jean Laikin.
