TRAVEL REPORT
REPORT ON DAY TRIP TO ALBUFERA - 5th June 2007
by ANDREW JOHNSON
A group of over 30 left Calpe under dull skies – a bit fearful of what the weather might have in store. But we enjoyed new knowledge, warm breezes, sunshine, good company – and, of course, an excellent meal. These are the trademarks of U3A trips and it was a pleasure to be part of Jean Laikin’s first trip since her enforced “absence”.

The trip included a stop for coffee at the Sidi Saler hotel on the dunes south of Valencia. We then made our way to the embarkation point for our ride in the “barco” around the magnificent lake of Albufera. We visited a typical fisherman’s thatched cottage and saw a host of wildfowl, including terns, herons, ibis and ducks. And even a few fish poked their heads out to great us. Steve Mable was very disappointed that he had not thought to bring his rods with him!

After a super lunch we visited the very impressive visitor centre which included a video on the area. And on our way into the area and on our way out again we passed dozens of active rice paddy fields.
Jean, ably assisted by Norman, ensured that we all had a packed but relaxing and informative day.

Thank you
Andrew Johnson
